Barack Obama's success in becoming President of the United States meant that he dramatically changed the face that his country presented to the world. In this bestselling book, Barack Obama discusses the importance of empathy in politics, his hopes for a different America with different policies, and how the ideals of its democracy can be renewed. With intimacy and self-deprecating humour, Obama describes his experiences as a politician and balancing his family life with his public vocation. His search for consensus and his respect for the democratic process inform every sentence. A senator and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a sceptic, Barack Obama has written a book of transforming power that will inspire people the world over.
In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. One phrase in particular anchored itself in listeners' minds, a reminder that for all the discord and struggle to be found in our history as a nation, we have always been guided by a dogged optimism in the future, or what Obama called 'the audacity of hope.' The Audacity of Hope is Barack Obama's call for a different brand of politics - a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the 'endless clash of armies' we see in congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of 'our improbable experiment in democracy.' He explores those forces - from the fear of losing to the perpetual need to raise money to the power of the media - that can stifle even the best-intentioned politician. He also writes, with surprising intimacy and self-deprecating humor, about settling in as a senator, seeking to balance the demands of public service and family life, and his own deepening religious commitment. At the heart of this book is Barack Obama's vision of how we can move beyond our divisions to tackle concrete problems. He examines the growing economic insecurity of American families, the racial and religious tensions within the body politic, and the transnational threats - from terrorism to pandemic - that gather beyond our shores. And he grapples with the role that faith plays in a democracy - where it is vital and where it must never intrude. Underlying his stories about family, friends, and members of the Senate is a vigorous search for connection: the foundation for a radically hopeful political consensus. A public servant and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a skeptic, and above all a student of history and human nature, Barack Obama has written a book of transforming power. Only by returning to the principles that gave birth to our Constitution, he says, can Americans repair a political process that is broken, and restore to working order a government that has fallen dangerously out of touch with millions of ordinary Americans. Those Americans are out there, he writes - 'waiting for Republicans and Democrats to catch up with them.'

God still performs miracles. He wants you to experience them in your life right now! Audacity is defined as intrepid boldness. The word itself implies that one has stepped from the ranks of convention and normal expectation into daring, uncharted territory. This is especially so with regard to prayers. The Audacity of Prayer shares the stories of modern-day miracles that have occurred as a result of bold, daring, courageous prayers, including when: · God spared a logger crushed by an enormous tree · Unborn twins given no chance for life were healed · A minister was healed from sudden, massive heart failure · A woman conceived after audacious prayers · A pastor outlived terminal leukemia by more than fifty years Let these stories serve as your encouragement and example. Let loose your caution. Throw off your doubts. Look up. Cry out to your loving Father above—and receive.
The Audacity of Breaking Free! The Audacity of Breaking Free is a recollection of the time I spent in the war fighting for the liberation and independence of Zimbabwe and the following events long after that war. I have tried to be as realistic, honest and true to the events as they happened according to my recollection more than three decades later. I did not have any notes written during the war or after, as a consequence, my mind’s eye is likely to see things differently from others who went through the same war or similar experiences of that war. I have used many quotes attributing them to certain individuals, but again all these quotes are from my memory and therefore may be remembered differently from others’ recollection. Experiences in the war were mentally troubling for me and many others who were directly and indirectly involved in it. The rural population had no better fate as they were often caught in the cross fire or assaulted for lending support to the war. Long after the war the day to day life did not seem to mean anything anymore for war veterans like me.

What happens when you feel like you are losing your mind and common sense eludes you. What do you do when you are trying to live as a servant of God and a good citizen but your parents? do not understand you, your wife, brothers and sisters; and even your neighbors consider you as an outcast? (Perhaps ?worthless?).The journey seems so long and you do not know where to turn. What can you do? Where can you go? Do you leave the people you love behind or do you move to another location to bring relief from the pain everyone is feeling? Wait. Remember there is hope in God!? The pain of death was at my bedside, the pangs Sheol laid hold of me; sorrows and troubles were at my doorstep. I was brought down low, and then the Lord delivered my soul from death. I am glad that God has dealt mercifully with me, for He has returned my soul to rest.
In THE AUDACITY OF HYPE, Armando Iannucci cuts straight to the heart of the insanity and sherbet-headed nonsense of modern life. THE AUDACITY OF HYPE brings together his views on diverse subjects, ranging from wickedly funny pen portraits of the sometimes loveable, usually despicable chumps who like to think of themselves as our political elite, and their bonkers schemes to save the world that are in fact likely to do us more harm than a pile of witches, to WMD, disaster movies, the pitfalls of 'I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here' and the high and mighty rhetoric of Obama, this is an absurdly entertaining and utterly indispensable collection from one of Britain's most brilliant satirists.
